Options for my essay title: 

• A society heavily influenced by the hyperreal.
• A society built upon the hyperreal.
• the effects of hyperreality on a modern day consumer society
• a 'fake' society built on hyperreality
• an interpretation of the real. - i think this one is my favourite.

I want to talk about hyperreality and link in the writers views/ opinions, and also how the hyperreal creates/enlarges the consumer societies expectations and wants. 

Change of idea!! 

I have decided to look on how the hyperreal has created a whole new 'world' as it were, how the real has been interpreted to create a hyperreal of which is then effecting the real and the society living in it.

Also how the consumer society is affecting the hyper real and how the hyper real is then making the consumer society want more from it.

Idea.. 

i am thinking of researching into Baudrillard's and other writers views on hyperreality, and then linking this to the film Inception.

As within the film inception they create a whole new world influenced by their initial surroundings. Recreating the real and creating the hyperreal.

Action Plan. 

Look in depth into the idea of Hyper Reality.

I was really interested in the ideas around Hyper Reality and the Baudrillard's view.

What i would like to do is relate this to one of my favourite films: Inception.

I want to look into applying Baudrillards theory to the film and look more in depth into Hyper Reality.

Disney Land is a modern day expression of the Hyperreal. Disney Land is the simulacrum of the real, it shows the meaning of hyperreality through it creating an 'imaginary' world of which has been copied from the real. However Baudrillard questions the fact that how do we actually know this has been copied from the 'real'. Could the real just be another copy and we are convinced into thinking that way.

 Coronation Street is another version of the hyperreal. A copy of people's everyday lives, acting out scenes of which people can relate to to then make people feel close to the soap. This is a copy an act of the real. Created by people to convey the 'real' life of the public and also make it realistic.

The Sims game another version of the Hyperreal of which you can create your own perfect, yet fake world. Yet you can chose from options given to you on the game which are all also versions/simulacrum of the real.

Lasswell's Maxim:

"who says what to whom in what channel with what effect" 

Researching how as a designer your work makes effective communication.

3 levels of potential communication problems:

Technical - Accuracy, systems of encoding/decoding, compatibility.
Semantic - Precision of language, how much of the message can be lost without being lost, what language to use.
Effectiveness - Does the message affect behaviour they way we want it to, what can be done if the required effect fails to happen?

The great advantages is that you can switch between mathematics, biological, psychological and socialogical frames of reference.

Audience Categories - Individuals, adults, men, women, sub categories - sub demographic groups, age, social class.

AB - higher and middle
